Indonesian Night 2016

This past Saturday, we were honored to join PERMIAS Madison in celebrating Indonesian Night 2016 at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Indonesian Night told the tale of Gong Mandau, a folktale demonstrating a journey of love and loyalty while also showcasing dance and music from across the Indonesian archipelago from Bali to Kalimantan. IDI performed Gamelan and Angklung pieces as well as the dances Tari Jauk and Tari Giring-Giring.

Harmony in Diversity

This past Sunday, we were honored to take part in a celebration of diversity as Milwaukee, Wisconsin honored the 1st anniversary of its relationship with sister city Medan in Indonesia. Performances took place at Centennial Hall with free admission to the public. IDI was joined by students from the Indonesian Cultural Center in Chicago, the Indonesian Berrien Springs Choir and PERMIAS Madison. IDI performed Tari Pendent and Gong Suling with the help of the NIU Gamelan Ensemble and Ronggeng Blantek.

Wedding Weekend

We had a weekend full of weddings!

On Friday, September 11th we were honored to join a couple celebrating their nuptials at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL.

On Sunday, September 13th we had a great time welcoming guests with Gamelan and music from our special sitar and sarod guests!

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In honor of May being Asian American and Pacific Islander month, we have done a variety of performances this month. On Saturday the 30th and Sunday the 31st, we were honored to perform at Willow Creek Community Church in Barrington for their AAPI heritage month reception. Along with a variety of other performers from various Asian countries, we performed Tari Nandek Ganjen and Tari Cendrawasih.

Busy Weekend!

We've had a busy weekend! Starting on Thursday the 14th, we were honored to perform the Barong dance for the AACC Award Ceremony at the Thompson Center. On Sunday the 17th, we showcased Indonesian culture with Tari Payung (umbrella dance), a performance of "Amazing Grace" by University of Wisconsin's Merly on the Sasando and a performance of "Bunga Anggrek" and "Ayo Mama" on Angklung instruments at Skokie's Festival of Cultures at Oakton Park. On Monday the 18th, we performed the Barong dance once again as well as Tari Nandek Ganjen for the 14th Annual Asian American Festival hosted by the AACC at Daley Plaza.

2015 NIU World Music Concert

On Saturday, Indonesian Dance of Illinois had the honor of performing at Northern Illinois University's World Music Concert.
